Spring cleanup

The year starts with everything winter left behind. Beds get cleared and re-edged, the brush and the leaf litter that blew in over four months come out, and the turf gets opened up so the first feed actually reaches soil instead of thatch. Do this badly and the lawn spends all of May catching up.

Mowing and fertilizing

The long middle of the year, and the part a season contract is really for. Same crew, same day of the week, cut height raised as the rain drops off through July and August so the grass keeps its own shade. Fertilizing gets timed to that schedule rather than dropped on a calendar date.

Mulch, hardscape and tree work

This is our own truck and our own machine, on a driveway in this county. Material handling is the unglamorous half of landscaping: mulch, stone and soil have to get to the back of a property without tearing up what is already there. Natural hardscapes and tree installation happen in the same window.

Fall cleanup

Timed to leaf drop, not to a date. Around here the maples and the oaks let go weeks apart, so one pass in the middle of October leaves you with a second lawn of leaves in November. Getting the last of it off before the first hard frost is what decides how the grass looks in April.

    North east along 83. Larger lots and more open frontage, which mostly means more mowing and more snow to put somewhere.
